I Have TMJ and My Whole Mouth and Jaw is a Mess

I have a severe case of TMJ disorder. In fact, I’ve already had every single one of my teeth capped over ten years ago now. I’m only in my thirties. Another problem is that I don’t think the crowns were done properly so when I continued to grind (which is how this all started in the first place) they eroded. And over time they were ground down so much that I am in terrible pain and my jaw clicks. I have been told that I also have a posterior crossbite and my gums aren’t healthy either. My jaw is crooked and the crowns are ugly. My jaw hurts so much and I’m sick of it. I have seen TMJ specialist after specialist, as well as a neuromuscular dentist. Needless to say I think I have been taken advantage of and I am still in pain! One of the specialists told me to where an orthotic which I did. But now my bite has opened up so much, I think I’m worse off now then when I started. I don’t know what to do. It’s time for some more restorations and probably makes sense to see a cosmetic dentist at this point. I just feel helpless. Do I have to choose whether I want a functional bite or whether I want my smile to look nice? I have seen an orthodontist too, as well as a prosthodontists. I wish I could find an expert that could take care of my complicated case once and for all.

As you can surely attest to at this point, TMJ is not a legally recognized field within dentistry, nor is cosmetic dentistry. This doesn’t mean that there are not experts that can address all of your needs, it just means that any dentist can make the claim to treat TMJ disorder, as well as be a cosmetic dentist. The closest solution you have sought out was probably when you were visiting the neuromuscular dentist.

The ideal scenario would be to find a cosmetic dentist with outstanding credentials with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry that also specializes in treating neuromuscular problems and TMJ. It is possible, but you may have to travel to find the right dentist.

As far as credentials go, to recognize a TMJ expert with the right TMJ approach, find a dentist that is trained at the L.D. Pankey Institute. There are many global leaders that have graduated with advanced training from this prestigious institute.

Most dentists come from a functional mindset and are trained to fix a dental problem, whereas you need a dentist that can solve your problems with your occlusion and jaw, as well as give you an amazing new smile with beautiful porcelain crowns.

Don’t settle, you will find the best. Dr. Arthur Chal is an expert cosmetic dentist located in Phoenix, AZ. He also has a proven track record of treating severe TMJ cases and considered a TMJ expert. If you feel like you have exhausted all your options, it may be worth it to have a consult, since your dental health and well-being rely on solving this problem.

Best of luck.
