My husband refuses to use the CPAP for sleep apnea?
Help! I’m so frustrated with my husband. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea but he refuses to use the CPAP machine. He says it’s too uncomfortable and he doesn’t care about the health risks involved. He also suffers from diabetes. When he gets home in the evening, he crashes out on the couch for a couple hours. Then he stays up late until after midnight, than gets up at 4:30am to leave for work. When it gets to the weekend, he will sleep all day if I let him. No joke, he will sleep for 14 hours or more. Do you have any advice?

It sounds like you don’t need to be reminded how serious of a condition sleep apnea can be. It has the potential to be life threatening if it is left untreated. Your husband is not alone in complaining about the discomfort of the CPAP machine.
Do you think he would be interested in trying a dental appliance to correct his sleep apnea? There are many products on the market now that are very comfortable. They are worn like a mouthpiece and many patients don’t even notice that they are wearing them after they get used to them. One popular appliance is the SomnoMed. Since your husband has already been diagnosed with sleep apnea, you just need to find a dentist that offers this service. There is no surgery to worry about and you just need to take the prescription given by his physician into the dentist and he can have one customized for your husband. The appliance safely moves the jaw forward so that the airway remains open all night.
Hopefully your husband is willing to give this treatment a try.
