Our Professional Team
Welcome to our intimate office environment!
We have a small team of expert staff to care for you, as well as a comprehensive team of diagnostic experts. One of the first things you’ll probably notice about our office is that there is no mass production happening here. Rather, we see one patient at a time and focus all attention on you while you’re here. Isn’t that the way you would do it, if you wanted to provide the best dental care in the world?
Please read about the education, training, credentials and background of our unique team of experts below.
David Hatcher, D.D.S., MSc
Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
Dr. Hatcher received his D.D.S. degree from the University of Washington in 1973 and an M.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1983. He was an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Division of Radiology for five years at the University of Alberta, Canada. He was also Director of the Temporomandibular Joint Investigation Unit and Clinic while at the University of Alberta. He has faculty appointments at both the University of California San Francisco and the University of Pacific Dental Schools. He has published many articles, lectured extensively to medical and dental organizations in the United States and Canada, and has co-presented with Dr. Chal.
Dr. Hatcher is recognized internationally as a major TMJ expert. He has published many articles, lectured extensively to medical and dental organizations in the United States and Canada, and has co-presented with Dr. Chal on various occasions. He has worked with Dr. Chal for over 20 years, and provides our radiographic diagnoses for our complex implant cases. While other dentists work with Dr. Hatcher, Dr. Chal is the only one who has him review every major case. Because of this, he has helped Dr. Chal discover some significant pathology that has made the difference for some important cases. S. Thomas Deahl, D.M.D., Ph.D
Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and Oral Pathology
Faculty at the University of Texas
Dr. Deahl is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. He has a Ph.D. in Radiation Biology and is certified in Oral Pathology and Radiology.
He is a current faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Deahl teaches in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology residency program.
Dr. Deahl has collaborated with Dr. Chal in recent years. Professor Deahl has provided valuable insights as a university academic, researcher, and teacher on contemporary challenges of advanced bone grafting and dental implantology.
Randy Silberman, M.D.
Specialist in Medical Musculoskeletal Radiology
Dr. Silberman is a board certified diagnostic radiologist working in Phoenix since 1997. Working with Dr. Hatcher and Dr. Chal she developed a special “Chal Protocol” for TMJ MRI imaging at the Insight Imaging Biltmore location.
This unique protocol has images of the TMJ made with a special DeLar wax bite positioner in place that Dr. Chal has fabricated to move the lower jaw into its orthopedic-skeletal posture. This technique was taught to Dr. Chal by Dr. Peter Dawson and Dr. Mark Piper in Florida. Working with Dr. Chal for over 20 years, Dr. Silberman’s staff at Insight Imaging produces outstanding MRI images.
Furthermore, Dr. Silberman has done special training to report all of Dr. Chal’s TMJ MRI’s utilizing Dr. Piper’s Classification System of TMJ Pathology. Her clear and concise reporting allows all of the members of Dr. Chal’s diagnostic and treatment team to communicate with precision.
Douglas Chenin, D.D.S.
3D Imaging Expert
Dr. Chenin is a computer expert who was instrumental in the development of 3D imaging software. Dr. Chal consults with Dr. Chenin on complex dental implant cases. Via telephone and computer, together they work out 3D “virtual planning” for each dental implant. Utilizing the patient’s CBCT scan, they select the appropriate size (length and diameter) for every implant. Furthermore, the x-y-z axis of each implant is determined. All of the planning is incorporated in customized surgical guides to help the surgeon minimize risks and maximize each patient’s outcome.
Tanya Rudolph, D.R.T.
Dental Radiographic Technologist
Tanya is a licensed dental radiographic technologist. She is a member of the American Association of Dental Maxillofacial Radiographic Technicians (AAMRT). Tanya has produced all of Dr. Chal’s imaging for over 20 years. She was the operator of the second dental CAT scan (CBCT) machine in the state of Arizona. Her exceptional experience and expertise provide images and photographs of unparalleled quality.
Rick Durkee, CDT, AAACD
Certified Dental Technician
AACD Accredited Dental Technician
Mr. Durkee and Dr. Chal have worked as a doctor-technician team for 35 years. Rick has 40 years of experience in dental laboratory technology. He is regarded as an accomplished artist, an award-winning amateur photographer, and a master ceramist. He and Dr. Chal have studied with other leading ceramists around the world.
Mr. Durkee’s credentials are truly rare. Very few dental technicians are certified, and fewer are AACD Accredited. Less than 5 percent are certified, and only 36 master dental ceramists worldwide have so far passed the rigorous cosmetic dentistry accreditation standards of the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Bruce Keeling, CDT
Certified Dental Technician
Dental School Instructor
Mr. Keeling has been a specialist for his entire career in removable and implant-supported restorations. He is also one of the fewer than 5 percent of technicians who are certified, and is one of fewer still who can create the technically demanding dental implant hybrid restorations with the precision and care Dr. Chal requires.
Mr. Keeling is an expert in removable restorations including prototype dentures, conventional dentures, implant-supported dentures and implant-supported fixed hybrid restorations that replace all your missing teeth and gum tissue. Not only does he serve as an adjunct instructor at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, but he is in high demand as a lecturer to other laboratory technicians and dentists around the country and internationally.
Mr. Keeling and Dr. Arthur Chal have worked as a doctor-technician team for nearly 25 years.
