Continuing Education

As a dentist dedicated to quality, Dr. Arthur Chal attends an extraordinary number of continuing education courses to keep abreast of all the latest developments in dentistry and to continue refining his skills. He takes over 100 hours of courses each year, which, if he were to do that in one stretch, would amount to about a month out of the year, every year. For comparison, most state dental boards require 15 to 20 hours of continuing education courses per year. Here is a listing of what he has done recently:

2016

February 2016

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program by Nobel Biocare. Mr. Steve Hurson director of research and development presented extensive information on dental implant reconstruction and material selection.

March 2016

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program by the attorney Jeffrey Tonner. This presentation addressed dental malpractice and the standard of care.

April 2016

Dr. Chal attended the three-day Western Regional Dental Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended lectures and evaluated products on the exhibit floor.

May 2016

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program by Clinical Research Associates of Provo, Utah. Their Clinician Report Update focused on current advances in dental materials.

August 2016

Dr. Chal attended the four-day Symposium presented by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (I.C.O.I) in San Diego, California. Doctors from 32 countries were in attendance. The latest advances in dental implant restoration were presented in great detail.

September 2016

Dr. Chal attended a two-day program presented by the Arizona Dental Association in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Henry Gremillion lectured on Orofacial pain disorders.

2015

February 2015

Dr. Chal attended the three-day International Symposium on TMD, Facial Pain and Headache presented by Quintessence Medical Publishing of Chicago, Illinois. Scientists, researchers, and clinicians were in attendance from 23 countries. The most current world-wide diagnostic and treatment concepts were presented in great detail.

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program by Clinical Research Associates of Provo, Utah. Their Clinician Report Update focused on current advances in dental materials.

Dr. Chal attended a two-day program presented by the Arizona Dental Association in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Jim McKee from Chicago, Illinois presented on the current standards-of-care for TMJ patients.

June 2013

Dr. Chal attended the International Congress of Oral Implantologists 2013 annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This four-day program was titled “Dental Implants: Single Tooth to Full Arch Reconstruction”. Dr. Chal participated in a hands-on training workshop and lecture presentations. Scientists, academics, and clinicians from forty countries were involved.

Dr. Chal attended the 29th Annual Scientific Session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Seattle, Washington. During this five-day meeting he attended lectures, workshops and evaluated products on the exhibit floor.

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program by Jo Ann Pulver by The Center For Microsurgical Endodontics. Her program compared and contrasted the success of root canal treatment and dental implants.

Dr. Chal spent four days in Madison, Wisconsin, as an examiner of the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry (ABCD). This board tests doctors seeking credentials in cosmetic dentistry.

June 2011

Dr. Chal attended the 23rd International Symposium on Dental Ceramics in San Diego, California. This four-day meeting was attended by over 1000 dentists from around the world, many of them leaders in their fields. It presented the very latest advances for the fabrication of dental veneers, crowns, bridges, and implant restorations. His master dental ceramist for the past 30 years, Rick Durkee, CDT, AAACD, also attended the program with Dr. Chal.

Dr. Chal attended a one-day program presented by CNA Health Pro of Chicago, Illinois, the underwriters of the Professional Protector Plan® for dentists. The presentation focused on the issues of dental standard of care, malpractice, and risk management.

Dr. Chal participated in a one-day program presented by Dental Imaging Centers of Phoenix, AZ. His lecture topic was the interpretation of CAT scans and MRI’s for the treatment of TMJ/TMD patients.

Dr. Chal attended the 26th Annual Scientific Session of The Ama rican Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. During the five-day meeting, Dr. Chal was honored by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry for his “immeasurable” contributions as an examiner for the past 16 years.

Dr. Chal attended the Utah Symposium on Cosmetic Dentistry in Salt Lake City, Utah. This program focused on new materials for cosmetic restoration.

August 2009

Dr. Chal and his dental technician Rick Durkee, CDT, attended the 6th world meeting of the International Federation of Esthetic Dentistry Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This five-day meeting happens in the U.S.A. usually once a decade, and doctors and technicians from over 70 countries were in attendance. A worldwide perspective on cosmetic, reconstructive, and implant dentistry was presented.

Dr. Chal attended a four-day curriculum by the Misch International Implant Institute, School of Dentistry, Temple University, in Philadelphia. The program focused on advances in fixed dental implant reconstruction.

Dr. Chal attended the 24th Annual Scientific Session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. During this five-day meeting, Dr. Chal spoke at the Past President’s Council to develop policies and ethical guidelines to protect patient’s from sub standard cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Chal and his dental technician, Bruce Keeling, CDT, attended a four-day curriculum by the Misch International Implant Institute, School of Dentistry, Temple University, in Philadelphia.The program focused on advances in implant supported dentures and complex hybrid restorations.

August 2007

Dr. Chal attended the International Congress of Oral Implantologists 25th Annual Scientific Session in San Francisco. Their five-day meeting featured a global perspective on contemporary implant dentistry.

July 2007

Dr. Chal was one of 300 clinicians and dental educators at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry in Colorado Springs. AAED meetings are only open to dentists by invitation, to those dentists who have a certain degree of reputation and professional standing. This four-day meeting focused on techniques to provide a “natural beauty” when creating porcelain veneers and crowns.

May 2007

Dr. Chal attended the 23rd Annual Scientific Session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Atlanta. While there, Dr. Chal was one of the doctors honored as an “AACD Legend” for his work in helping to shape the course of cosmetic dentistry in the world. During this five-day meeting, Dr. Chal also presented a lecture entitled “Dental Implants: Evolving Technologies, Techniques, Materials, and Patient Expectations.”

Dr. Chal attended a two-day curriculum at the Nobel Biocare Training Institute in Los Angeles. The program focused on “immediate function” of dental implants. The “All-on-4” treatment concept was presented by its developer Dr. Paulo Maló from Lisbon, Portugal.

Dr. Chal attended a two-day program presented by Dr. Paul Homoly, CSP, of the Homoly Communication Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina. The program was designed for dentists to better understand their patients’ problems and to present solutions designed to fit patients’ schedules and budgets.

August 2006

Dr. Chal attended the International Congress of Oral Implantologists Annual Prosthodontic Symposium in Montreal, Canada. This four day program was focused on the latest advances in dental implants.

May 2006

Dr. Chal attended the 22nd Annual Scientific Session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in San Diego, California. During the five day meeting, Dr. Chal presented a half day lecture titled “Advanced Imaging and Reconstructive Dentistry.”

He participated in 32 hours of advanced esthetic dental instruction to enhance his knowledge and skills. Dr. Chal presented a half day lecture at the meeting. Five doctors were honored at the 20th Anniversary Meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Chal received a Presidential Citation recognizing his significant contributions to leadership and education in cosmetic and reconstruction dentistry.

Dr. Chal was one of 300 clinicians and dental educators invited to the A.A.E.D. “Visions for Excellence” annual meeting held in Dana Point, California. The very latest breakthroughs in dental research, materials, and clinical techniques were presented.

Dr. Chal attended Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. He took a program titled: “Managing the Restorative Periodontal Interface.” This continuing education course elaborated on techniques to keep gum tissue healthy and attractive around dental crowns, veneers and implants.

Dr. Chal attended the 19th Annual Scientific Session of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in Orlando, Florida. He participated in 32 hours of advanced esthetic dental instruction to enhance his knowledge and skills. During the 5-day Scientific Session, Dr. Chal was honored at a special leadership dinner where he was presented a plaque in recognition of his many contributions to the A.A.C.D.

Dr. Chal and his master ceramist, Rick Durkee, CDT, AAACD attended “Dialogue 2003, International Laboratory Congress”. This meeting presented the latest materials and techniques for fabrication of dental crowns, veneers and implant restorations.

February 2003

Dr. Chal attended the 48th annual session of The American Equilibration Society in Chicago, Illinois. Current treatment concepts for temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) problems were presented. Dr. Chal was asked to lecture to this international assembly of doctors at their 2004 Annual Meeting.

January 2003

Dr. Chal attended Louisiana State University school of Dentistry. He took a program titled “Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning: A Systematic Approach”. This continuing education course dealt with the diagnosis of the multiple factors impacting patients who require complex treatment.

October 2002

Dr. Chal attended the International Federation of Esthetic Dentistry World Congress in Washington, D.C. on October 3-5, 2002. He received an Outstanding Achievement Award.

September 2002

Dr. Chal lectured to the California Dental Association, Fall Scientific Session, Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California on September 27-29, 2002. His program was titled “Facial Surgery and Esthetic Dentistry: Advancing the Cosmetic Connection”.

July 2002

Dr. Chal attended Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. He took a program titles “Restorative Heroics versus Replacement Antics”. This continuing education course dealt with the difficult decisions required in dental implant reconstruction.

May 2002

As President of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Chal hosted the 18th Annual Scientific Session “From Solo to Symphony” in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 7-12, 2002. He attended numerous educational sessions to enhance his knowledge and skills. Dr. Chal presented two lectures at the meeting.
